Beyond the Headstone

A headstone gives a name and two dates. It does not tell you that she sang in the church choir, raised four children through the Depression, or kept the family Bible. Beyond the Headstone is planned as a free remembrance column for the people whose stories never got told: the funerals that could not happen, the relatives no one talks about, the graves no one in the family has visited.

How it is planned to work

  • Families write it. A relative sends a short remembrance in their own words, with photographs they own.
  • No copying. Nothing is taken from social media or other memorial sites. Families supply their own photographs.
  • No imitation. No artificial voice or chatbot speaks as the person who died.
  • Room for hard stories. Adoptees and families with surprise DNA results are welcome, and can choose what is printed.
  • Free. A remembrance notice in the column is planned to be free. The paper is paid for by labeled advertising.

The column is not open yet. Nothing can be submitted from this preview.
